Igniting the Entrepreneurial Spirit: How Purpose Fuels Business and Life

Managing a growing company like Onenetworx has been no easy feat. The struggles are real, the risks are high, and the rewards, while sweet, are never guaranteed. But through the ups and downs, one truth has kept me going: purpose fuels passion.

I remember my days as an employee. The security of a monthly paycheck offered comfort, but it didn’t shield me from struggle. There were days I questioned my path, days when the routine dulled my spirit. Yet, even then, I nurtured a quiet fire inside—a dream to build something bigger, something of my own. That fire pushed me to wake up early, to learn more, to push harder, and to sacrifice leisure for growth. My purpose was taking shape, even before I had the words for it.

Making the leap into entrepreneurship was a trial by fire. Business is risky—sometimes income is stable, other times it’s a rollercoaster. There’s no finish line, only the next challenge. What keeps me moving forward isn’t just the hope of financial gain, but the burning passion and sense of mission that greet me every morning. That passion is my anchor, my motivation, and my shield against adversity.

What Keeps the Fire Burning?

It’s purpose. When you believe in a cause bigger than yourself, the fire doesn’t just burn—it blazes. My purpose is woven into the very fabric of Onenetworx. We believe in the power of Filipino families. We believe that the best way to keep families intact, healthy, educated, and strong is to provide them with sustainable income opportunities—without forcing them to leave their homes and loved ones behind.

The Onenetworx Vision: More Than Just Business

Onenetworx isn’t just a company; it’s a movement. We promote home-based business and employment in the Philippines, allowing families to stay close and spend more time together. We know that money matters, but time with loved ones and self-care are just as important. Our vision is to spark an entrepreneurial mindset among Filipinos, empowering them to take the leap into business ownership despite the challenges and lack of support. Because when one entrepreneur rises, more jobs are created—and more families thrive.

Now, as I lead my own team, my message is clear: Don’t work just for money. Work because you have a purpose. Find that cause that ignites your spirit. Let your work be an extension of your dreams and values. At Onenetworx, we champion this belief every day. We’re not just building a business—we’re building lives, families, and futures.

Let your purpose be the fire that wakes you up every morning. Let it guide your choices, fuel your growth, and inspire those around you. When you work for a purpose, success follows—not just in your career, but in your life.

What is your purpose? What fire burns within you? At Onenetworx, we’re here to help you find it—and to build something truly meaningful, together.

Why Employees Need Purpose to Thrive

Picture
Turning 50 is more than a milestone—it's a moment of reflection. As I look back on my journey from employee to entrepreneur, I see a story not just of risk and reward, but of purpose, sacrifice, and the fire that keeps us moving forward.

From Security to Struggle: The Employee Mindset

There was a time when I, like many, found comfort in the steady rhythm of a monthly payroll. As an employee, there’s a sense of security—knowing that, come what may, your efforts will be rewarded with a paycheck. But even within that security, I felt the weight of struggle. There were mornings when motivation was hard to muster, and days when the routine dulled the spark inside me.

The Big Leap: Embracing Uncertainty

Entrepreneurship is a different world. The risks are real, the road is uncertain, and every decision can feel like walking a tightrope. There are days when the business thrives, and days when you question everything. But there’s something that keeps you going—something more powerful than fear or doubt.

The Secret Fuel: Purpose

What keeps the fire burning? It’s purpose. When you believe in something bigger than yourself—when your work is tied to a vision that matters—passion becomes your daily companion. For me, that purpose is rooted in the mission of Onenetworx: to empower Filipino families by promoting home-based businesses and employment. We believe that true wealth isn’t just about money—it’s about time spent with loved ones, about building a life where family and opportunity go hand in hand.

Why Purpose Matters for Employees

To every employee reading this: don’t just work for money. Find your purpose. Let it drive you to wake up early, to push through challenges, and to learn as much as you can. When you work with a sense of meaning, every sacrifice—every missed party, every late night—becomes a step toward something greater.

The Ripple Effect: Purpose Creates Opportunity

When I was an employee, my dream of starting a business was the spark that kept me moving. Now, as I manage my own company and lead a team, I see that same potential in others. The entrepreneurial mindset isn’t just for business owners—it’s for anyone who wants to create a better future. When you work with purpose, you don’t just change your own life; you create opportunities for others, too.

Let Purpose Be Your Guide

Business is hard. Life is full of uncertainty. But with purpose as your guide, you’ll always find the strength to keep going. Whether you’re an employee dreaming of something bigger or an entrepreneur facing new challenges, remember: your why is your greatest asset. Hold onto it, nurture it, and let it light your path forward.

Don’t just work for money—work for a purpose. That’s the fire that never goes out.

The Rise of Entitlement Among Job Applicants: A Modern Employer’s Dilemma

9/25/2025

Picture
In today’s digital age, the way people apply for jobs has changed dramatically. As an employer, I’ve observed a noticeable shift: many job applicants now approach the process with a sense of entitlement and informality that would have been unthinkable in previous generations. Rather than demonstrating humility and respect for the organization, some candidates act as if wanting a position is enough to deserve it—regardless of their actual qualifications or experience.

My Experience. From Humility to Entitlement.
During our online recruitment process, I’ve encountered applicants who:
  • Are overly demanding about salary, benefits, and work arrangements—even before being interviewed or assessed.
  • Assume they are a “perfect fit” for the job without providing evidence of relevant skills or achievements.
  • Communicate casually, sometimes bordering on disrespectful, as if there is no boundary between themselves and the employer.
  • Show little appreciation for the opportunity or the competitive nature of the job market, believing it’s their right to be chosen simply because they want the position.
This is a stark contrast to previous generations, who approached job applications with humility, professionalism, and a clear respect for authority and organizational hierarchy.

Research & Industry Experiences
This trend is not unique to my organization. Many employers and HR professionals have reported similar experiences:
  • A LinkedIn article discusses how entitlement and complacency are rising among applicants and employees, creating a gap between what organizations expect and what candidates deliver.
  • Another resource, How to identify jobseekers who turn into ‘entitled’ employees, highlights that these individuals are often more focused on their own needs than on teamwork or organizational fit.
  • Recruiters and hiring managers on forums like Reddit share stories of applicants making unreasonable demands, expecting special treatment, and showing little respect for the process.
Experts suggest that the rise of remote work, social media, and a candidate-driven job market have contributed to this attitude shift. The sense of distance in online applications can make some candidates forget the importance of professionalism and respect.
Picture
Assumptions: How Entitlement Impacts Organizations

When entitled attitudes become common among new hires, organizations can face several challenges:
  • Lower Productivity: Entitled employees may resist feedback, refuse tasks outside their comfort zone, and undermine teamwork, leading to inefficiency and missed targets.
  • Cultural Erosion: A “diva” mentality can spread, damaging respect for leadership and eroding the values that hold a company together. This can result in a toxic culture where rules and standards are ignored.
  • Increased Turnover: Teams with mismatched expectations and poor attitudes are less cohesive, leading to higher attrition rates, frequent conflicts, and increased recruitment costs.
  • Reputation Risk: If entitled behavior is tolerated, it can harm the company’s reputation among clients, partners, and high-performing employees, making it harder to attract and retain top talent.
Ultimately, a workforce full of entitled individuals can slow down progress, create unnecessary drama, and distract from the company’s goals. How Employers Can Protect Their OrganizationsTo safeguard workplace culture and maintain high standards, employers should:
  • Set Clear Expectations: Clearly communicate company values, behavioral standards, and job requirements from the start of the hiring process.
  • Screen for Attitude: During interviews, prioritize candidates who demonstrate humility, willingness to learn, and a team-oriented mindset over credentials alone.
  • Enforce Boundaries: Maintain professionalism in all communications, even in online channels. Set boundaries for what is acceptable during the hiring process and beyond.
  • Promote Accountability: Recognize and reward team players, while holding entitled behavior accountable through feedback and performance management.
  • Invest in Onboarding: Use onboarding to reinforce cultural norms, expectations, and the importance of respect and professionalism.

Final Thoughts
The job application process is a two-way street, but respect and professionalism should never go out of style. While organizations must adapt to changing times, they must also protect the culture, standards, and values that drive long-term success.

“Don’t just ask if you deserve the job—ask if the job deserves you. But first, make sure you’ve earned the right to be chosen.”

Mastering Delegation: A Lesson for Entrepreneurs

9/19/2025

Picture
In the early days of my business journey, I wore many hats. I was the founder, the manager, the marketer, and sometimes even the office handyman. My reason was simple: I had a vision in my mind, and I wanted things done exactly the way I imagined them. But translating that vision into clear instructions for my team was a challenge. It was easier—and much faster, I thought—to just do things myself, especially when it came to tasks where I felt I was the expert or when I believed the learning curve would be too steep for someone else.

Looking back, I see how this approach created a bottleneck. The company’s growth was slow. I was always busy, tired, and stretched thin. My hands were so full with daily operations that I couldn’t focus on bigger opportunities or even take time to rest. The business, and the team, were stuck because I was stuck. I didn’t realize it at first, but my need to control everything was holding us all back.

The turning point came when I saw our numbers weren’t improving. Despite all my hard work, the results weren’t there. I realized I had to make a change. I needed to let go of some tasks so I could focus on what mattered most—sales generation and business growth. Trusting others wasn’t easy. I worried about mistakes, about quality, and about whether my team could really handle the responsibility. But I knew I had to change my mindset. I told myself, “You just have to trust them. Period.”

At first, delegation was rough. Mistakes happened. My initial mistake was stepping back too much. I trusted my team, but I expected them to figure everything out on their own. When things went wrong, I pointed out the errors and waited for them to fix things by themselves. But I learned that real delegation isn’t about abandoning responsibility. It’s about guiding your team, especially at the start. My role wasn’t to do the work for them, but to mentor and support them—showing them the right way and only letting go when I was confident they could handle it on their own.

If I could go back, I would have spent more time coaching and supporting my team during those first hand-offs. That extra effort early on would have saved a lot of trial and error for everyone. Delegation is a process, not a one-time event. It takes patience, communication, and a willingness to invest in your people.

As I learned to delegate more effectively, the changes were obvious. With more hands helping, the business finally had room to grow. I was able to focus on the company’s vision and mission. My stress levels dropped, and I started to enjoy my work again. The team grew stronger and more confident. People stepped up and took ownership. We became more agile, more innovative, and more resilient as a company.

Here are a few practical lessons I learned along the way:

  • Start small. Don’t try to delegate everything at once. Choose tasks that are important but not critical, and let your team build confidence.
  • Communicate clearly. Make sure your expectations are understood. Don’t assume your team knows what’s in your head.
  • Guide, don’t micromanage. Be available to answer questions and offer feedback, but let your team take the lead.
  • Accept mistakes as part of growth. Use errors as learning opportunities, not reasons to take back control.
  • Celebrate wins, big or small. Recognize your team’s efforts and progress.

Delegation isn’t just about having less to do. It’s about building a stronger team and moving your business forward. The more you empower others, the more you can achieve together. Your business will thank you for it, and you’ll find new energy and freedom as a leader.

My advice to fellow entrepreneurs: Don’t be afraid to let go. Trust your team, but guide them well in the beginning. Invest time in developing your people. When you empower others, you multiply your impact. Remember, your business can only grow as far as your team can take it. Make delegation your secret weapon, and watch your company thrive.

When Floodwaters Rise: The True Cost of Corruption in the Philippines

9/12/2025

Picture
It’s hard to find words when the headlines scream of corruption—again. This time, it’s the flood control projects, meant to protect our homes, our families, our very lives, but instead, they’ve become another monument to greed. As a Filipino who has spent years working, sacrificing, and striving to do things right—first as an employee, now managing a business—I am left with a heavy heart.

Every peso stolen from these projects is a future stolen from a Filipino child. Every shortcut taken, every bribe accepted, every official who looks the other way, is a blow to the dreams of millions who simply want a fair chance. We wake up early, endure traffic, work long hours, pay our taxes, and follow the rules. We do all this, believing that hard work will be rewarded and that our country can be better. And yet, time and again, we are betrayed by those in power—congressmen, government agencies, politicians who are supposed to serve, not steal.
Picture
This is not just about money. It’s about trust. It’s about the silent agreement that if we do our part, our leaders will do theirs. When that trust is broken, something inside us breaks, too. We see it in the eyes of the young—disillusioned, cynical, losing hope that things will ever change. We see it in our OFWs, forced to leave their families behind because they no longer believe they can build a life here. We feel it in the way the world looks at us—another developing country, another story of corruption, another dream deferred.

Our reputation is tarnished abroad. We are belittled, sometimes pitied, sometimes mocked. For every Filipino who excels, who brings honor to our flag, there are headlines that drag us back down. It’s unfair. It’s infuriating. It makes you want to shout, to curse, to give up.
But we must not.

If we let hatred and violence take root, we become what we despise. If we surrender to bitterness, we betray the very values that make us Filipino—resilience, faith, and the relentless hope that tomorrow can be better. We must hold on, not just for ourselves but for the next generation. We must continue to do good, to work honestly, to build with integrity—even when it seems pointless, even when the system seems stacked against us.
Picture
Let us end with a prayer—not just of lament, but of hope:

A Prayer for the Philippines

Lord God,

We come to You with heavy hearts, burdened by the corruption that has stolen from our people, our future, our dignity. We grieve for the dreams lost, the trust broken, the lives put at risk.

But we also come to You with hope—with the belief that goodness can prevail, that light can pierce even the darkest night.

Give us the strength to keep doing what is right, even when no one is watching.

Grant us wisdom to discern truth from lies, courage to speak out against injustice, and patience to endure trials.

Protect our hearts from hatred and violence.

Heal our land, Lord.

Raise up leaders who will serve with honesty and compassion.

Let our nation rise, not because of the power of a few, but because of the faithfulness of many.

May we never lose hope.
May we always choose to do good.
May Your guidance be our light, today and always.

Amen.
